Eastern Kingbird vs. Bald Eagle
These photos were taken from my kayak on Lake Aeroflex in Andover, New Jersey. The Bald Eagle was sitting in this dead tree on the water, and an Eastern Kingbird took offense to the infraction into its territory.
It would swoop back an forth in a steady rhythm, letting out a chirp each time it would reach the eagle's head. I was impressed by the tenacity and fearlessness of the smaller bird. At the time I did not know what sort of bird this was that was attacking the eagle. A friend was able to identify it for me from my photos.
These photographs were a challenge to capture - the water was choppy, my kayak was moving, and of course the Kingbird would not sit still.
